Salt & Ochre: A Homeland Series

For an artist living far from their beginnings, painting is an act of homecoming.  This series is my way of staying connected to the Australian landscape—a place defined by the rugged  sun-baked earth and the spray of the tide.

My work is driven by the wonder of the land and the shapes that live in the subconscious. I am interested in the moment a particular color triggers a memory, bridging the distance between where I am and where I grew up. I start with fluid, hazy washes that mimic the fog of time, then use thick impasto strokes to build something solid.

These marks are the physical remnants of nostalgia; they are the parts of the land I carry with me. In Flume (Fire & Bloom), I lean into the tension of change and the strength of what remains. This work invites you to look into the landscape and discover the textures that feel like home.
